ASEID Announces
(Atlanta, GA) - Alison Seidenstricker has been selected to present his/her choreography in Dance Canvas' inaugural performance series, September 19th and 20th at the Woodruff Arts Center's 14th Street Playhouse. The performance of emerging professional choreographers will bring performers from across the country to Atlanta for three shows.
This past spring, Dance Canvas announced an open call for choreographer submissions. "I have been looking for a great opportunity to showcase my choreography in a large venue outside of New York City, so I jumped at the chance to apply." says Alison Seidenstricker.
"We were pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of submissions from choreographers across the country. We could only select ten for our fall 2008 show. Alison Seidenstricker was a standout." says Angela Harris, Executive Director of Dance Canvas. "Due to the demand we are steadily preparing to have at least two performance series per year."
The production is already starting to create a "buzz" among the dance community of Atlanta. "We are excited to introduce Atlanta to the top up-and-coming choreographers in the dance world," says Harris.
Dance Canvas is a choreography development and presenting company that provides emerging choreographers with a venue to create and present new works in a professional theater. Dance Canvas is also the only local liaison between professional dancers and new choreographers, providing additional performance opportunities, otherwise unavailable in Atlanta. Through diverse choreography in all styles of dance from ballet to hip hop, Dance Canvas provides audiences the chance to see innovative, World Premieres. "We want people to walk out of our show with a closer attachment to the art form," comments Harris, "From the popularity of dance themed shows like 'So You Think You Can Dance', we know that people are ready to see the same level of dancing and have same thrill, LIVE!"
The choreographers chosen for the inaugural performance come to Dance Canvas from several different cities: Jelani Jones (Jelani Jones Dance Company - Atlanta, GA), Koya Craddock (New Orleans, LA), Robert Mason (Atlanta, GA), Alison Seidenstricker (ASEID - New York, NY), Angella Foster (Refuge Dance Company - Atlanta, GA), Sarah Boies (Baton Rogue, LA), Kristy Nillson (Atlanta, GA), D.
